Mid-century, Scandinavian-style, extendable dining table, with a striated teak and mahogany veneer finish, designed by Maison Ducau in Cadillac, France between 1967 and 1970, from the Nordic series (I contacted the manufacturer, which is still in business.)
Closed, the round shape of the table rests on a fantastic, carved pedestal and has a diameter of 115 cm. Once opened, the pedestal is divided into 2 halves, transforming the table into an oval, "capsule" shape, resting on 2 legs ending in "v's."
The table has 2 leaves: One that's an integrated, folding "butterfly" that is 45 cm wide and a separate, second leaf with edges, that is 55 cm wide. With the addition of the second leaf, which can remain installed permanently (which I advise, the assembly can take a little time and requires 2 people to facilitate the assembly), the width of the table becomes 170 cm.
When integrating the butterfly leaf, it slides outs for adjustment, and has a handle to lift it (see photo). It must then be rotated at 45 degrees (see photos), then slowly lowered into place, then goes into position next to the other leaf, and then needs to be gently tightened into position, with hooks underneath the tabletop and leaves (see photos. Now, with both leaves in use, the overall width becomes 215 cm and can easily accommodate 8 to 10 people, without the discomfort of a normal table which has 4 legs.
The table is in very good, original vintage condition, with slight signs of wear and use commensurate with time, and a patina of time on the top, extensions and edges (see photos next to a 1 centime for perspective.) The pedestal feet have some old marks and traces of age and usage (see photos) and and old repair on one foot, which looks to be like a wood shard was repaired and put back into place (see photos.)
The table is solid, heavy, and all the mechanisms work. There are no feet pads. To properly close the tabletop to put it back into its original shape, one will need to gently press down on each side of the top so that the sliding, wood mechanisms) fit perfectly into place.
The pedestal is removable if needed. The piece carries its original maker's mark (see photo.) My advice, because of its practical size, is to use it with the second leaf ( i.e. 170 cm for 6 to 8 people), to make it hassle-free and easier to use on a daily basis, and then open the butterfly extension to receive more people on special occasions.
