Gonzalo Martín-Calero (1952 - ), Silkscreen on paper (1993) Numbered 14/100
Wonderful silkscreen by the artist Gonzalo Martín-Calero (1952 - ), numbered and signed in pencil, 14/100. This work is framed in the almost abstract expressionism, as is common in the artist, where form and color are the undisputed protagonists. However, we can appreciate a tree, with thin branches and leafy leaves, on a yellow background that hypnotizes instantly. This silkscreen shows all of Martín-Calero's cultural background as well as his artistic training, since his search for non-form shows his roots in European informalism, and yet his tree resembles the oriental paintings he admired so much. It is a splendid piece of exquisite technique.
Gonzalo Martín-Calero (1952 - )
Gonzalo Martín-Calero is a contemporary artist with a long and consolidated artistic career, having exhibited in different countries all over the world, such as France, Cuba, China, the United States, etc.
His artistic production follows the stylistic currents of European informalism, thus refusing any kind of form in order to express his feelings in a subjective and free way. He seeks inspiration from natural elements, both those found in landscapes and in the human body.
This author defined painting as "a very complex language, the oldest of humanity", in possession of a "particular alphabet" capable of forming "a series of meanings". He also considers that the painter, unlike other arts, "creates images that do not exist until the moment of their creation".
